Ethan Hawke Biography

Ethan Green Hawke, an American actor, writer, and director, was born in Austin, Texas to Leslie (née Green) and James Hawke. His parents were high school sweethearts in Fort Worth and got married when his mother was 17, with Hawke being born a year later while they were students at the University of Texas at Austin. They separated and later divorced in 1974.
With four Academy Award and a Tony Award nominations to his name, Ethan Hawke has directed two feature films, three Off-Broadway plays, and a documentary, and authored the novels The Hottest State (1996) and Ash Wednesday (2002). He has also starred in a number of films, including Gattaca (1997), Hamlet (2000), Assault on Precinct 13 (2005), Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead (2007), and Sinister (2012).
