Gary Busey Biography

American actor William Gary Busey has an impressive filmography, having acted in over 150 movies, including some iconic titles like The Buddy Holly Story (1978), Lethal Weapon (1987), Predator 2 (1990), Point Break (1991), Under Siege (1992), The Firm (1993), Carried Away (1996), Black Sheep (1996), Lost Highway (1997), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), The Gingerdead Man (2005), and Piranha 3DD (2012). In addition to his film work, Busey has also made guest appearances on several television shows, including Gunsmoke, Walker, Texas Ranger, Law & Order, Scrubs, and Entourage.
At the start of his career in show business, Busey was a drummer for The Rubber Band. He also played drums on multiple Leon Russell recordings, using the pseudonyms “Teddy Jack Eddy” and “Sprunk”. During his time as a cast member on the local TV comedy show The Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Busey created the character of Sprunk, which was featured on the show along with fellow Tulsan Gailard Sartain’s character “Dr. Mazeppa Pompazoidi”.
Busey received critical acclaim for his role as Buddy Holly in The Buddy Holly Story, earning a nomination for the Best Actor Academy Award and winning the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor.
