Sam Worthington Biography

Samuel Henry John Worthington, an Australian actor and writer, is best known for his roles as Jake Sully in the Avatar film series, Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation, and Perseus in Clash of the Titans and its sequel, Wrath of the Titans. He has since ventured into more dramatic roles, featuring in films such as Everest (2015), Hacksaw Ridge (2016), The Shack (2017), Manhunt: Unabomber (2017), and Fractured (2019). Additionally, he lent his voice to Captain Alex Mason, the protagonist of the video games Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) and Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012).

For his starring performance in Somersault, Worthington was honored with Australia’s most prestigious film award in 2004.

Sam Worthington, a British-born Australian actor, was born on August 2, 1976, in Godalming, Surrey, England, UK. Despite being born in England to English parents, he is an Australian citizen and spent most of his childhood in Perth, Western Australia. His complete name is Samuel Shane Worthington.

At the age of 22, Worthington completed his studies at NIDA (Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art) in 1998. He garnered critical praise for his performance as “Arthur Wellesley” in his debut professional role in the Belvoir Street Theatre’s production of “Judas Kiss” under the direction of Neil Armfield. Following this, he worked on several Australian television programs, including Water Rats (1996) and Backburner, before appearing in the 100th episode of the American television series JAG (1995) titled “Boomerang: Part 1.” His film debut came in Bootmen (2000), a highly acclaimed Australian film about a group of “tap dogs.”

Personal Life

According to Worthington, he sold off the majority of his belongings and was left with only $2,000 when he was around 30 years old. He used the money to buy a car and ended up living in it until he landed the role in Avatar. After securing the part, he was able to find a place to call home.

Confirming earlier speculation, Worthington announced on October 18, 2013, that he was in a relationship with Australian model Lara Bingle. They exchanged wedding vows on December 28, 2014, and welcomed their first child, a son named Rocket Zot, in 2015. In October 2016, the couple welcomed their second son, named Racer.

Worthington is a Christian.
