Shia LaBeouf initially pursued stand-up comedy in local small clubs before his interest in acting was piqued after seeing a friend in a TV show. He then actively sought out auditions and eventually landed a role as a junior comedy actor in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens in 1999, for which he won an Emmy Award. This marked the beginning of his professional career, and he subsequently landed roles in big budget Hollywood films. LaBeouf gained widespread fame for his role in the blockbuster hit Transformers in 2007, and also appeared in the well-known sequel Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. He continued to play the lead role in subsequent Transformers sequels in 2009 and 2011.
