Born on July 3, 1962, Tom Cruise is an American film actor, writer, director, and producer. His original name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, and he was born to Mary Lee and Thomas Cruise in New York. He has three sisters and shares his father’s name. Tom Cruise’s ancestry includes German, Irish, and English roots. During his early teenage years, he lived in Ottawa, Canada, where his father served as a diplomat. Despite his interest in hockey, his parents enrolled him in figure skating lessons due to their fears. Surprisingly, Tom Cruise originally wanted to become a priest, not an actor! He grew up in poverty and was raised as a Catholic, with his father being abusive towards him.

Since the 1990s, Tom Cruise has been a highly reliable and successful movie star, featuring in a diverse range of films. Among his most renowned works are the Mission Impossible series, The Last Samurai, Interview With the Vampire, Jerry McGuire, Knight and Day, Vanilla Sky, Jack Reacher, and his debut in Top Gun. In 1971, his family relocated to Canada, where he played floor hockey in school. After his mother divorced his father, she took him and his sisters back to the United States, and his father later passed away from cancer. He made a brief appearance in Endless Love before landing his first major role in Taps, where he played a significant supporting role alongside Sean Penn and Timothy Hutton. In 1983, he starred in the hit film Risky Business, which marked his breakthrough role. Tom Cruise became a superstar after starring in Top Gun in 1986, where he played Maverick, a fighter pilot. He also starred opposite Dustin Hoffman in the Academy Award-winning film Rain Man and earned an Oscar nomination for Born on the 4th of July.

In 1990, he co-starred with Nicole Kidman in the film Days of Thunder, and they appeared together again in Far and Away. In 1994, he acted in the ensemble cast of The Interview with the Vampire, which featured other upcoming superstars like Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, and Kristen Dunst. Tom Cruise played the role of Ethan Hunt, a spy, in the 1996 blockbuster hit Mission Impossible, which has been his most successful film series to date. The same year, he also starred in Jerry McGuire.

Tom Cruise has been married three times throughout his life. His first marriage was to Mimi Rogers in 1987, and in 1990, he married Nicole Kidman. However, they separated in 2001. His third marriage was to Katie Holmes, and the couple has a nine-year-old daughter. Additionally, Tom Cruise has two adoptive children. He is known to follow the teachings of the Church of Scientology.
